Objective

Clear six levels while managing a constant stream of falling capsules. Two of the ten capsule types are harmful, so catching everything is the wrong strategy.

How to play

Keyboard

  • ← / → or A / D - move the paddle
  • Space - launch the ball
  • P - pause and resume
  • R - restart
  • M - sound on or off

Mouse

Move the pointer across the play area and the paddle follows. Click to launch. Mouse control gives analogue positioning, which is what most high scores are set with.

Touch

Drag your finger anywhere on the play area - you do not need to touch the paddle itself. Tap to launch. Large left, launch and right buttons appear below the game on touch devices. Keep your finger low on the screen so your hand does not cover the bricks.

What makes this one different

This is the only game on the site where you can lose by catching something. The shrink capsule narrows your paddle and the speed-up capsule accelerates the ball, and both fall in the same stream as the useful ones. It turns paddle movement into a second decision layer: you are positioning for the ball and simultaneously deciding what to intercept or duck.

Tips for Power-Up Breaker

  1. Learn the colours. Green and blue capsules help you, red and orange ones do not, and purple is a mystery effect.
  2. You can dodge a capsule by moving under the ball's path instead - dodging is a positioning choice, not a separate action.
  3. The magnet capsule catches the ball on your paddle. Use the pause it gives you to line up a difficult angle deliberately.
  4. Multi-ball plus fireball is the strongest combination in the game, but it also makes the screen hard to read. Use it on dense levels, not sparse ones.
  5. Purple mystery bricks give a random result. Break them early in a level when a bad outcome costs you least.

Frequently asked questions

Which power-ups are bad?

The narrow-paddle capsule and the speed-up capsule. Both are drawn in warm colours (red and orange) to give you a chance to identify them while they fall.

What does the mystery brick do?

Breaking one triggers one of four effects at random: bonus points, a free capsule, an extra ball, or a ball speed increase.

Can I turn off the harmful capsules?

No, they are the core of this game's design. Play Neon Brick Breaker if you want a generous power-up pool with no downsides.

How long do power-ups last?

Timed effects run for about nine seconds. Multi-ball and the extra-life capsule are permanent for that run, and the shield lasts until it absorbs one ball.
