Brick Breaker Game Types - Classic, Endless, Puzzle and More
The genre is not one game. This section maps the sub-types - classic, Arkanoid-style, endless, puzzle, physics-led and mobile-first - and what changes between them.
People use 'brick breaker' to describe games that play very differently. A pure Breakout clone and a power-up-heavy Arkanoid descendant share a paddle and a ball and almost nothing else in terms of pacing, risk and decision-making.
This section separates them. Each type gets a definition, the mechanics that characterise it, and a game on this site you can try immediately to feel the difference rather than read about it.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Breakout and Arkanoid style games?
Breakout-style games keep a single ball, no power-ups and a pure skill test. Arkanoid-style games add falling power-ups, multiple brick types and designed level layouts, which shifts the game towards resource decisions as well as aim.
What makes an endless brick breaker different?
There is no final level. New brick rows push down from the top on a timer, so the pressure comes from the wall advancing rather than from a level you must finish.
Are puzzle brick breakers still arcade games?
They sit between the two. You still control a paddle and a ball, but a limited number of balls turns each launch into a planning decision instead of a reflex test.
